The Museum of Curious Art
August 12th and 13th, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
NOMA Pittsburgh is hosting their annual Project Pipeline Architecture Weekend Summer Camp: The Museum of Curious Art! This year, students will be exploring the principles of sustainability through architectural design and storytelling by imagining what a Museum of Curious Art Pittsburgh might be.
The museum has transformed from a place of preservation to a place of activation. A key element of Sustainability is to create social institutions that serve to foster conversation between diverse communities and cultures. Museums have historically been spaces that serve as containers for great works and teaching fascinating histories that are not covered in school curriculums. Today, museums continue their role as containers of great education, but also serve their communities through educational courses, hands-on skillshops, and novel interactive playscapes.
The Museum of Curious Art celebrates art from a collection of diverse voices, and will also serve as a model for curious approaches to environmental sustainability. Situated in neighborhoods with histories of challenging community concerns, the MoCA utilizes architecture to enhance the environment around it. The building will integrate high-performing, out-of-this world environmental infrastructure that advance how we see architecture’s role in engaging the environment.
Students will be practicing their architectural design skills while answering questions like: What does a sustainable future look like?
This camp is open to middle-school and high-school youth. Both groups will engage in hands-on activities that get students quickly into crafting from their mind, all while collaborating with peers and mentor architects.
