About the 2024-2025 Program
The Pittsburgh Architecture Foundation is launching the next class of the Leadership Institute with applications opening in July and classes starting in September. The purpose of the Leadership Institute (LI) is to explore and grow the potential, capacity, and skill set of those attending while making a positive change and impact as an individual, to their firms and offices, and at a community level.
This year, we are offering the program to the broader AEC Community. Young leaders in the AEC professions will engage with each other and collaborate on real-world challenges, while learning valuable leadership skills. Classes will be held on the third Thursday in September, October, November, January, February, and March from 1:00pm – 5:00pm.
The program is a combination of classroom and group discussion/development of leadership styles and challenges. This year, unlike previous, each cohort within the LI Class of 2024-2025 will select from three non-profit community organizations who are anxious to collaborate as partners. Each cohort will use their existing skills, and hone new skills, to explore a particular issue that their partner organization is navigating in their respective neighborhood. The goal is for the cohort to develop their leadership skills, while learning to work together on pressing issues in our region, exploring opportunities to get engaged at a broader level.
Program participants can expect to develop and discover skills in:
- Leadership
- Time Management
- Community and Civic Engagement Practices
- Moving from Idea to Action to Outcome to Success
- Creating a Framework to Move any Vision Forward
- Communicating and Collaborating in the AEC Professions
Classes will touch on:
- Building a Leadership Community
- Examining Your Sphere of Influence
- Exploring Organizational Context
- Creating Impact
- Civic Engagement with Non-profit Partners
LI classroom sessions are being submitted for a possible total of 10 CEUs.
This year, the program will be facilitated by Ivette Mongalo-Winston, AICP. Ivette is the founder of MonWin Consulting, a multi-disciplinary woman-owned consulting practice focused at the intersection of urban design, planning and policy. She seeks to improve the communities she works in by supporting collaborations, designing transparent planning processes, and facilitating honest conversations. Her practice is rooted in the desire to create a more equitable world where everyone’s voice is heard.
