Architects Oppose U.S. Withdrawal from Climate Treaty
AIA today reaffirmed its commitment to climate change mitigation and announced it was opposing the Administration’s decision to withdraw the United States as a signatory to the Paris Agreement. That accord, signed in late 2015 within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), commits the international community to fighting harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

I Look Up Film Competition
The AIA 2017 I Look Up Film Challenge is now open for registration, inviting architects across the country to collaborate with filmmakers by highlighting projects that are changing communities for the better.
Architecture is at its best when practiced in service of the community. The I Look Up Film Challenge is an opportunity for architects and filmmakers to come together to showcase exactly that.
All films submitted by August 13 will be reviewed by an esteemed panel of judges from the media and architecture world, along with a chance to win the public’s vote. Winners will be screened in early November at the Architecture and Design Film Festival, and win cash and distribution prizes.

GBA Presents Integrative Design Workshop with 7group
Green Building Alliance is excited to partner with 7group to offer a unique half-day workshop where we’ll examine how integrative design thinking actively seeks to design and construct projects that are cost-effective to design, build, and operate for the life of any project. The workshop will be facilitated by John Boecker (founding partner of 7group and internationally recognized integrative design consultant) and hosted in Phipps Conservatory’s Center for Sustainable Landscapes – a fantastic local example of the integrative design process at work. The session begins by looking at natural systems as our model for whole systems thinking, followed by concrete case study examples.

Passive House 101 Lunch and Learn

Having been a staple in European building design for a number of years, the Passive House standard, which happens to be the strictest international energy standard in the world, is starting to take off in regions all around the US, including Pittsburgh! The fundamental design principles of the Passive House standard include continuous insulation, air tightness, thermal bridge free construction, and thermal comfort through balanced ventilation, heat recovery, and minimal space conditioning systems. Interested in presenting at PechaKucka Night Pittsburgh Vol. 27? Please email the following information to Greg Coll at gcgraphicdesign@comcast.net by midnight on Tuesday, June 20th.
1) 3-4 images that best represent the content of your proposed presentation. It can be on absolutely anything.
2) Your name, the title of your presentation, and a brief outline.
3) A brief artist statement, or bio, to be used for promotional purposes.
PechaKucha Nights are informal, fun gatherings held in more than 900 cities worldwide, where creative people share their ideas, works, and thoughts in a 20×20 format; a presentation style with 20 images that advance automatically for 20 seconds each, as the presenter talks along with the images.
