Six&Kane
The West Penn Power Sustainable Energy Fund, a non-profit organization that provides investment capital and grant making to spur the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency, purchased a vacant and decaying mid-block commercial building on US Route 6 in Kane PA. They committed to renovating the building to the EnerPHit standard to further their mission and demonstrate the strategies and skills needed to achieve Passive House Certification
The community embraced and supported the project from beginning to end. Local tradespeople were trained in the craft of creating and maintaining an air barrier and thermally broken envelope, plus several key team members earned their Passive House credentials.
The building currently houses a smoothie bar, offices, a business incubator, and community meeting rooms.
Six&Kane is the first EnerPHit Plus Certified Office Building in North America. Though a renovation, the building exceeds the criteria for Passive House Plus for new construction.
