The Design Pittsburgh People's Choice Award is your opportunity to weigh in on some of the recently designed (or redesigned) places and spaces in our community. Architecture is a part of our daily environment and we want to hear from you what good design means to you.
As you look through the projects submitted, ask yourself: Does the project inspire you? Would you enjoy spending time in that space? How does the project enhance or serve our community?
Harry Meyer was concerned the town of South Fayette would lose its agricultural roots as the life-long farmer and retired conservationist saw the township become more and more suburbanized. Passionate about passing down his knowledge of farming to the next generation, Harry Meyer opened his 45-acre farm to neighbors, students and young stewards allowing the foot trails and fields with wildlife, gardens, and agricultural machinery to become a living classroom to discover what nature has to offer and to learn how our food actually reaches our tables. After Harry’s passing, the Allegheny Land Trust, was entrusted to honor Harry’s legacy and revive Meyer Farm to what it once was. The design team together with ALT focused on bringing back nostalgic elements locals remember, and designing new buildings that follow ALT’s nature-centered and sustainability-driven pedagogy while following the architectural language of the red metal roofed historical farm.
