Contributed by AIA Pittsburgh 2024 Clean Energy Partner, Duquesne Light Company
The world is in the midst of an unprecedented energy transition. The architecture community plays a pivotal role, making decisions about building design that will have impacts for years to come. As Duquesne Light Company (DLC) pursues its vision for a clean energy future for the Pittsburgh region, it was proud to be the 2024 Clean Energy partner of AIA Pittsburgh, an organization that is committed to ensuring healthy and sustainable design and whose members have profoundly shaped the region over the past 125 years — and will continue to do so throughout the next century.
Today, buildings account for more than 38 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Fortunately, now more than ever, there are many options to incorporate clean energy into buildings and satisfy customers’ needs, including energy-efficient building materials, efficient electric devices, on-site electric vehicle charging and clean energy generation. Employing energy efficiency and beneficial electrification strategies can help reduce the building sector’s footprint while demonstrating cost and energy savings as well as health and safety benefits for both building owners and occupants.
A Clean Energy Future for All
