In honor of Construction Junction’s 25th year of operation, CJ is launching what they hope will become a new tradition in Pittsburgh. On November 1st, at the Roxian Theater in McKees Rocks, CJ will be presenting the first annual Cee Jay Awards to the most inspiring reuse projects in our region. Think “the Oscars” of Reuse! They will be awarding CeeJay’s to DIY residential renovation projects, creative reuse of CJ inventory items, most innovative reuse of material in new construction and inspiring reuse of entire buildings.
AIA Pittsburgh’s Committee in the Environment (COTE) is sponsoring the CeeJay Award for the reuse of an entire building. Why? Because in many cases the most sustainable building is the one that already exists.
While Construction Junction has diverted and processed more than 6 million building components over our lifetime (and since their loading dock cannot handle whole buildings), they want to recognize, with the help of the AIA Pittsburgh COTE, that reuse of entire buildings almost always offers significant environmental savings over demolition and new construction.
Submit your adaptive reuse projects for award nominations to mgable@cjreuse.org by September 30th.
Submissions should include the following:
Building Name:
Building Owner:
Address of Building:
Project Narrative: why is this an award-winning example of adaptive reuse? The narrative should include how long a building sat vacant before its second life. What was its original use and what is its “new” use. What hardships had to be overcome to create the building’s new identify?

Parameters:
- Projects need to be local.
