The days are getting shorter, but AIA Pittsburgh is finding ways to fit more into them! September is quickly filling up with events all around town, particularly the unveiling of the Design Pittsburgh 2012 exhibit! Design submissions will be available to view via the online digital exhibit next week, with the physical exhibit making its debut at the Cultural District’s Gallery Crawl on September 28th! An autumn evening spent Downtown, taking in art and design… you won’t want to miss it!
AIA Trade Mission to India: The AIA, in conjunction with the US Department of Commerce, has put together the first Architecture trade mission to India. A half day seminar is scheduled for September 19, for architects and firms interested in learning about the resources available from the US government to businesses. The final agenda is forthcoming, but members interested in this opportunity are encouraged to visit the AIA Advocacy website for more information.
September 6–9 – CRAN Symposium 2012: The Custom Residential Architects Network (CRAN) will hold its 5th annual symposium on September 6 through 9 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Newport, Rhode Island. The three-day symposium addresses elevating the art of residential design and practice. Find details and register online.

September 11 – ARE Review Series, Introductory Session: The Introductory Session is the first of the ongoing, monthly review series and will review test taking strategies, and general information required for taking the ARE tests. This session is free to all who wish to attend and will be held at the offices of Rothschild Doyno Collaborative, 2847 Penn Avenue. September 21 – PARK(ing) Day: PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks. Temporary parks will be installed across the city, with the majority concentration Downtown.

September 24 – Deadline for IDP Firm Award Applications: The IDP Firm Awards Program recognizes firms who actively embrace the NCARB Intern Development Program (IDP) and demonstrate a commitment to interns by making the path to licensure an integral part of the firm’s culture. Firms interested in applying for the 2012-2015 IDP Firm Award or IDP Outstanding Firm Award are encouraged to download an application at www.aia.org/IDPFirmAward.

October 1 – Deadline for Latrobe Prize Submissions: The College of Fellows is now accepting first stage submissions for the Latrobe Prize. The prize is awarded to a research proposal that has the long-range potential to resolve one or more 21st century architectural and built environment challenges. The prize provides the recipient with $100,000 to conduct research and develop a solution that enhances the current practice of architecture. Full details are available in the Call for Proposals.
