The highlight of November will be David Lewis, FAIA’s lecture at the Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture on November 6th where the premiere of  AIA National’s 20-minute film, The Legacy of David Lewis, that will precede David’s lecture.  This month you can also check out the Pittsburgh Magazine competition and two RFQ opportunities.

AIA Pittsburgh Board of Directors Meeting

November 2nd from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Join AIA Pittsburgh’s Board of Directors for an open board meeting at 925 Liberty Avenue, Suite 700.

CMU SoA Lecture: David Lewis, FAIA

November 6 – 5:00 p.m. – Kresge Theatre (first floor, College of Fine Arts Building, CMU)

David Lewis, FAIA, will give a lecture at CMU School of Architecture on November 6th that will be preceded by the premiere of a short film by the AIA: “The Legacy of David Lewis.” In honor of Mr. Lewis’ indelible mark on the built environment in Pittsburgh and the greater Mon Valley, Columns spoke to several of his colleagues about his influence on their work. Call for Submissions: Grassroots Leadership Excellence Awards

November – 17 Deadline

For the first time, we are offering a monetary award for the winners of the Grassroots Leadership Excellence Awards. First place winners will receive $1,000 and second place winners will receive $500. The submission period is now open. The winners will be announced during the Grassroots 2018 meeting.

RFP Larimer Architectural Services

November 8 – Deadline

The Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh (URA) is seeking proposals from professional architectural, engineering or other qualified firms to develop a Historic Structure Report and create a preliminary treatment plan for the former Larimer School Site in the Larimer neighborhood in the City of Pittsburgh. When completed, the information obtained in the assessment will allow the URA to proactively plan for the maintenance, stabilization and reuse of the Site, while working to preserve the character defining features.

November 17 – Deadline

Pittsburgh Magazine Call for Submissions:

Home of the Year
Best New Kitchen, Best Renovated Kitchen
Best New Bathroom, Best Renovated Bathroom
Best Outdoor Living Space

Entries that have been submitted to other competitions are permitted; multiple entries are welcome. Designers and builders can submit entries on behalf of clients. Construction or renovation must have been completed in 2017.

RFQ and Design Competition for Cleveland Public Library’s new MLK Jr Branch in University Circle

November 27 – Deadline

Cleveland Public Library is inviting qualified domestic and international professional design firms to submit their qualifications for architecture and engineering services to participate in a design competition for the construction of an iconic and architecturally-innovative new branch library that will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Located in the dynamic University Circle neighborhood, this new branch library will replace an older, outdated building, better serving the community by its location on a major transit route and by providing flexible space that meets the needs of nearby residents.

3 Finalists will be paid a $20,000 stipend to develop and present a design concept for the new MLK Jr library branch
