At the end of each year, members of the architectural community gather together to celebrate at AIA Pittsburgh’s President’s Holiday Party, sponsored by SOTA Construction Services, Inc. This year, the party was held at the 4moms headquarters, an office downtown that was entered in the Design Pittsburgh Awards competition.
Early in the evening some business was announced. Four AIA members were voted on to be part of the AIA Pittsburgh Board of Directors – Marc Mondor, AIA; Julie Polletta, AIA; George Rieke, AIA; and Stephen Winikoff, AIA – as well as two Associate AIA Board representatives – Ray Bowman, Assoc. AIA and Arthur Notaro, Assoc. AIA. The traditional passing of the wig took place, as 2015 president Alan Schlossberg, AIA welcomed 2016 president Michael McDonnell, AIA. Next, Bea Spolidoro, Assoc. AIA was awarded the AIA Pittsburgh President’s Award – given to someone who personifies the ‘citizen architect’ – for her untiring involvement with the organization, serving as public relations and communications chair on the Young Architects Forum, the Design Pittsburgh committee, the Communications committee, and helping to plan the Young Architects Studio Competition and ARE Review Series, as well as a regular contributor to Columns, not to mention her unwavering positivity, contagious good cheer, and dedication. Finally, we congratulated the 16 young professionals who have successfully completed the A.R.E. to become registered architects in 2015. Congratulations to everyone and we will see you in the new year!
The 2015 RAs are: Cat Adams, AIA; Shannon Benya; Joe Bevins; Matthew Brind’Amour, Assoc. AIA; Daniel Colvard, AIA; Rob Dower; Daniel Huddock; Abigail Lubniewski; Brenna Martin; Dan McNamara; Drew Mosher, Assoc. AIA; Joe Obritz, Assoc.
