AE Works has been awarded a contract to provide design and engineering services to modernize the current 60 bed Spinal Cord Injury Patient Care Center at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, New York. Supporting delivery of integrated rehabilitation, specialty, surgical and long-term healthcare services, this renovation will modernize patient care areas as well as critical support and common areas. As the VA is a leader in identifying new methods of rehabilitation through research and engineering, the design will integrate flexibility to meet the Center’s needs for many years to come, supporting the VA’s use of evolving healthcare technologies to improve patient care.
Designed by Astorino, the new Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania has opened for the 2014-2015 school year. With the goal of LEED® for Schools 2009 Silver certification in mind, the project design considered sustainable measures such as community connectivity, water efficiency, use of recycled materials, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality. Special attention was given to use of daylighting in the classroom wing, as natural light is proven to provide numerous benefits including enhanced student performance.
Christine Mondor, AIA, principal of evolveEA, has been selected as one of 80 international experts, practitioners, and leaders to be part of the Ecodistricts Global Protocol Advisory Committee. Ecodistricts creatively synthesize ecology, economics, and placemaking to create strong communities and the concept has successfully been used in community based planning projects across the country. evolveEA has successfully worked with communities in Western Pennsylvania to incorporate innovative energy, water, and food systems into the design of neighborhoods, planned developments, and urban districts.
The Hayes Design Group – Architects has recently added three new members to their firm, David W. Bostak, AIA, LEED AP, Daniel G. Doyle, and Bryan D. Tusick, LEED AP BD+C. Bostak has joined the firm as Project Architect and Director of Production. A graduate of Virginia Tech and with over 15 years of experience, he has extensive knowledge in BIM software and his duties include overall firm development of production methods, standards and quality control. Doyle has joined the firm as Senior Construction Administrator. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University and has 30 years’ experience in construction and facilities management, as well as 20 years’ experience in Construction Management, with extensive K-12, residential, and commercial building types. Tusick is a Project Architect and has been involved with multiple building types, including public housing, commercial, university, and specializing in K-12 educational. He is a graduate of Kent State University with almost 20 years experience in the field.
Lami Grubb Architects (LGA) and Glance & Associates are merging. Jonathan Glance, AIA of Glance & Associates will join LGA partners Suzan Lami, AIA Robert Grubb, AIA, and Paulette Burns as the new organization’s fourth partner. LGA has long been a leader in education, multi-family residential, community and healthcare design. Glance & Associates is a regional authority in liturgical, academic, multi-family residential and community design as well as historic preservation. The combined firm includes 10 licensed architects and a support staff of 45.
Following the successful multi-phase design of Penn State’s Knowledge Commons renovation at the Pattee and Paterno Libraries at the University Park campus, WTW Architects was selected to design the renovation of the Earth & Mineral Sciences Library at the Deike Building. Construction of the project was completed in March at an estimated $400,000.
