By Posted on January 7, 2022

Name: Bea (Beatrice) Spolidoro, AIA, WELL AP

Fisher ARCHitecture

Husband, Eric Fisher

Years in practice:

MArch at “Politecnico di Milano” University

AIA Committees you’ve served on: Young Architects Forum, Outreach Committee, Build Pittsburgh Committee, Continuing Education Committee, Communications Committee, Design Pittsburgh Committee…

Your first job: I designed logo and merch for a focaccia company, called “Focaccia Mia”.

Project you’re proudest of: While working with RDCollab, I was part of the design team that renovated the Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. It was a touching experience.

What’s the most annoying thing architects do? Telling clients that what they want to do is (often) not allowed by the Building Code.

What have you always wanted to tell your clients?  “You’ll thank me later.”

Favorite tool (can be digital, drafting, physical,…): My iPad

Favorite building: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan, Italy

Favorite outdoor space: In Pittsburgh, it would be any trail along the rivers.

Architect you’d like to have coffee with: Alvar Aalto

What do you like to do when you’re not working? Biking, running, or training at the gym

Best gift to give an architect: Something involving traveling

If you hadn’t become an architect, what would you have been? A lawyer

If you could live anywhere in the world, where? My Grandma’s stone shack on the Alps near Lake Como

What’s on your iPod/Pandora/Spotify? Lately, Aya Nakamura, Yseult, Lous and the Yakuza. Typically: Grimes, ZHU, Elderbook, Purity Ring.

The secret to my success: Success is a big word, but I guess willpower is helpful.

Advice to young architects:  Don’t try to be perfect. Try to be indispensable.

Architectural quote to practice by: “If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, build yourself a garden.” (Carlo Scarpa)

  1. Dear Ms. Spolidoro,
I want to thank you for the surprise review of my book, Place-Specific Design by Mr. Murray. The book was published both in Italian and in English by CLEAN Edizioni, a publisher who specializes in architectural books. Congratulation on your appointment. Again thank you.

    Valeriano (Val)
