Meet the 2025 Jury: AIA Potomac Valley

The 2025 Design Pittsburgh Awards Jury comes from AIA Potomac Valley. Learn more about jurors below:

Scott Knudson, AIA, Jury Chair
Knu Design, LLC

With 40 years of architectural leadership spanning multifamily housing, mixed-use developments, historic renovations, and civic and educational projects, Scott Knudson brings unmatched depth and versatility to his role as principal of Knu Design. His portfolio includes award-winning work for clients ranging from private developers to government agencies, with a particular focus on projects that bring people together to strengthen communities. A recipient of more than 19 design awards, he is recognized for his ability to balance design excellence with technical rigor and social impact. His professional service includes leadership roles with AIA Practice Management Knowledge Community, AIA Maryland, and AIA Potomac Valley Chapter where he serves as the chair of the Design Awards program.

 

Kristina Crenshaw, AIA, NCARB
17/27 Design Studio, LLC

An accomplished architect licensed in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, Kristina brings more than 20 years of experience crafting aspirational destinations to her role leading 17/27. With a focus on interior planning and design, Kristina has cultivated a wide-ranging portfolio encompassing restaurants, workspaces, residential amenity spaces, and retail stores that blend personality and practicality. A Maryland native, Kristina received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture with a certificate in Urban Planning from the University of Maryland.

 

Peter Noonan, FAIA, LEED AP
McInturff Architects

Peter Noonan, FAIA, LEED AP is a distinguished architect and educator whose three-decade career has bridged award-winning practice and impactful teaching. As a principal at McInturff Architects—one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s most highly respected firms—Noonan has led the design and execution of over 60 projects, earning more than 90 regional and national design awards. His work is known for its exceptional integration of tectonic clarity, building craft, and systems coordination.

Noonan’s dedication to place-making and design excellence extends into academia. Since 2007, he has served as Professor of the Practice at the University of Maryland, where he led the Integrated Design Studio for ten years and consistently advanced innovative, sustainability-focused curricula. His teaching has produced nationally recognized student work, including multiple AIA COTE Top Ten awards and top honors in the ACSA Timber in the City competitions.

He founded and directs the SCANDINAVIA: Culture & Place education abroad program, enriching students’ global design perspectives. His seminar Sensing Architecture: Body & Place explores multi-sensory design and has included collaborations with the National Federation of the Blind, promoting inclusive architectural thinking.

Noonan pursues design excellence as an architect and teacher, thoughtfully shaping the communities he serves. He designs buildings with sophisticated craft, creating immersive, sensory-rich spaces while mentoring the next generation of accomplished architects.

 

Antonio Rebelo, AIA, IIDA
Grimm and Parker Architects

Antonio is a Grimm and Parker leader in the civic, cultural, recreational, public safety, interiors, residential and educational practices. With over 25 years of experience, Antonio is G+P’s Co-President and Chief Design Officer, winning multiple regional and national AIA design awards. His notable projects include the National AIA ALA award-winner Laurel Library, Wheaton Library + Community Recreation Center, Bowie City Hall + Police Department, George Washington Carver High School, the Workforce Development Center at NOVA, Wheaton High School, The Varsity, The Culinary Arts Center for PGCC, Leonardtown Library, Elkridge Library, The Capital Region Medical Center for UMMS, Capitol Vista, and Havre de Grace Middle/High School. He has a passion for all aspects of design including mentorship of emerging architects and developing a project’s initial vision in a friendly and engaging way, demonstrating a care for scale, proportion, and contextual integration. Antonio is a strong believer that great design can be achieved with a small budget. He is also a Past President of the Potomac Valley Chapter of the AIA. Often finding inspiration through motion, Antonio is an avid sailor and pilot.

 

Jennifer Verbeke, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP
MCDStudio

Jennifer Verbeke is a principal and partner at MCDStudio in Bethesda, Maryland, a small, award winning firm with a main focus on custom residential work, including renovations, additions and new construction. She has worked for both architecture and design-build firms in the Maryland/DC and NY area prior to joining MCDStudio. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree with a double major in Social and Cultural History from Carnegie Mellon University. Jennifer has been actively involved with the AIA Potomac Valley and AIA Maryland’s Board of directors since 2017 and has served as both the AIAPV President in 2019 and the AIA Maryland President in 2021.
