Advice to young architects: At times this can be a very daunting profession, don’t lose sight of the reason you came to it and don’t let anyone ever tell you what you can and cannot do or who you should be. You need to find that for yourself. And don’t forget to laugh!
Architectural quote to practice by: “You need to let the little things that would ordinarily bore you suddenly thrill you.” -Andy Warhol
What is YASC?
The Young Architects Studio Competition (YASC), is the annual design competition that is organized by the AIA Pittsburgh Young Architects Forum (YAF) and showcased at Design Pittsburgh. The goal of this competition is to engage young architects, emerging design professionals, and students by challenging them to find innovative ways to approach a regional design challenge.
Entrants are welcome to submit individual entries or design team entries. Individual entries must come from either an architecture graduate, or undergraduate/graduate student. AIA membership is not required; however, entrants must be located within AIA Pittsburgh’s 11-county chapter area.
Each year, YAF releases a new, original prompt related to a relevant project or architectural opportunity happening in the greater Pittsburgh region. Interested in learning about this year’s prompt? Join YAF at their monthly General Assembly Meeting on July 21st at 5:30pm at the AIA Pittsburgh office where they will be announcing the 2022 YASC prompt. Learn how to get started in the competition and maybe even find a partner for your design team!
