When a beloved but old barn could not be salvaged due to structural issues for adaptation to host guests, the Owner tasked our team to design a new structure reflecting the image and character of the original while showcasing the natural beauty of the Laurel Highlands. The new Guest Barn profile echoes that of the original building, and the interior architecture celebrates the craftsmanship involved.

Structural elements include heavy timber frame with true mortise and tenon joints, constructed by local Amish craftsmen using traditional techniques. The design utilizes timber and siding salvaged from the original structure and locally-sourced stone for interior and patio tile. Incorporation of NanaWall folding glass panels allows the natural landscape to be the focal point when closed and brings the outdoors in when opened. A tribute to the ecology and landscape of rural Southwest Pennsylvania, the Guest Barn is a rejuvenating retreat for friends and family.
