Pittsburgh’s rich history of jazz music thrived in clubs and theaters in the city’s East End neighborhood where this project is located. Drawing inspiration from this heritage, CODA on Centre was designed to celebrate life as art and to foster community. Taking cues from the simplicity, repetition, and structure of a musical composition, the design uses universally accepted jazz progressions as a framework for the building elevation and shared communal spaces. ‘Coda’ is a musical term that refers to the final part of a piece of music; as the name of the apartment building, CODA represents the destination for residents at the end of the day.
