“CANstruction is using one can of food as a catalyst for change. One can to represent the building blocks of massive sculptures. One can to prove that every act of kindness makes a difference. Since 1992, CANstruction has contributed over 15 million pounds of food to community food banks demonstrating that we can win the fight against hunger. Wherever a CANstruction competition is held, thousands of hungry people are fed, a greater awareness of the issues surrounding hunger is brought home to the public, and a spotlight is placed on the design and construction industry giving back to the communities it helps build.”
Pittsburgh’s CANstruction will be held for the 2nd year at One Oxford Centre, where teams will build their structures on September 22nd. The results will open for public viewing from September 24th through the 29th in the old Talbot’s space. You can vote for your favorite structure during that week by bringing a can good to One Oxford Centre and placing it in the box closest to your pick! The gala will be held on September 29th at 7 pm. At the gala, awards will be given for Best Meal, Best Use of Labels, Structural Ingenuity, Juror’s Favorite, and Honorable Mentions, as well as People’s Choice. All of the cans will then be packed up and shipped off to the individual teams’ favorite local food bank. Last year we were able to raise 9,000 pounds of food!
