Call for Nominations: AIA Pittsburgh Board of Directors

September 14, 2018

Post Category | News

The AIA Pittsburgh Governance Committee is compiling a list of nominated and solicited names for the following positions for the 2019 AIA Pittsburgh Board of Directors.

  • (2 or 3) Directors (3-year term, renewable once for a total of 6 years max; serving 2019-2021)
  • (1) Associate AIA (1-year term, renewable once for a total of two years max, serving 2019)

If you are an AIA member in good standing interested in being considered for one of the open positions, please submit: your resume and in 100 words of less tell us why you want to be on the board, by 5:00pm September 28th  to Jeffrey Murray, FAIA, Chairman of the Governance Committee: jmurray@cannondesign.com

The Governance Committee will review nominees for skills and experience the Board needs at this time to ensure we have a diverse representation of our membership. Finalists will be contacted for in-person meetings.

Board membership requires time and commitment, and includes obligations and responsibilities as set forth in the Bylaws of the Organization. Board Directors must believe in the purpose and the mission of the American Institute of Architects, and meet the following expectations:

1. To interpret the organization’s work and values to the community, represent the organization, and act as an ambassador for AIA and the architecture profession.

2. To attend at least 75% of the 9 board meetings, committee meetings, and special events.

3. As a voting member of the Foundation for Architecture, to consider making an annual personal financial contribution.

4. To actively serve on at least one board committee, often as co-chair.

5. To develop and approve strategic plans.

6. To actively participate in one or more fundraising activities.

7. To act in the best interests of the AIA Pittsburgh, and to not participate in discussions and votes where there is a conflict of interest.

8. To stay informed about what’s going on in the organization: to ask questions and request information; to participate in and take responsibility for making decisions on issues, policies and other board matters; to be transparent with the entire board members with my questions and requests.

9. To work in good faith with staff and board members as partners towards achievement of AIA Pittsburgh’s goals.
