They say that the older you get, the faster time goes by. While I have no intention of categorizing myself as “old” (or anywhere close!), I can recognize that with each passing year as a ‘grown-up’ I look back in wonder at where the time went and how another 12 months could possibly have flown by, seemingly right under my nose. 2011 proved no exception – it was a whirlwind of work, play, growth, (more) home renovations, and stasis yet oh-so-much change. At the time of this writing 2012 is still days away, yet it is already filling up at a pace that simultaneously excites and terrifies me.
One of the major projects of this past year has been working with the AIA Pittsburgh staff and member architects on the redevelopment and redesign of the Chapter’s new website. We have spent the past 6+ months defining what is wanted/needed and how to make that happen. A new site has been on the wish list for years now, and to see it come to fruition has been a true labor of love. I am so excited with the outcome and hope you find it successful as well! A big part of the redesign was the decision to take Columns completely digital, so that we will be able to put our resources towards more content instead of overhead costs. We plan to really beef up how often we are ‘publishing’ articles, and encourage you to stop by frequently to read what our contributors have to say. I think you’ll be pleased with the results.
If you haven’t already, take some time to explore the site. There is a lot of pertinent information presented within these pages. I hope you’ll continue to be devoted readers of Columns and visit this page often, but if you find yourself with questions regarding Chapter business or even some basic queries about the profession, this whole site is a great resource, one that the staff has put a lot of time and thought in to. As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated, and we hope this new online home provides a place for open dialogue and easy communications, both with AIA Pittsburgh and the community of architects. Speak up, and let us know you better!
