Design Pittsburgh is a celebration of architecture and design, and honors those who create it. Design Pittsburgh raises the profile of architects as critical resources and industry experts in the Pittsburgh region. Through exhibits and events, this program provides excellent exposure of architects’ work to a wide variety of audiences – including potential customers. Gil Penalosa on How to Craft a Welcoming City

On the evening of Sunday, October 19th, the Green Building Alliance and the Design Center of Pittsburgh organized a Community Forum at WESA-FM on the South Side with guest speaker Gil Penalosa. Penalosa is the former Commissioner of Parks of Bogotá, and now Chair of the Board at 880cities, a Toronto-based non-profit organization. The goal of 880cities is to promote walking and biking as activities, and urban parks, trails, and other public spaces as great places for all. Penalosa was in our town to be the keynote speaker at the APA-PA Chapter 2015 Annual Conference. Irina Zhorov from WESA interviewed him during the Community Forum. Bates Elected Vice President

AIA Pittsburgh member wins national office

Each year at AIA Convention, elections are held to fill the national positions of First Vice President, Vice President, and Secretary. This year, voting took place on June 27th in Chicago, and AIA Pittsburgh is pleased to announce that one of our own was chosen as one of two 2015-2016 Vice Presidents. The chapter congratulates Bill Bates, AIA. William J. Bates, AIA began his involvement when he was elected president of AIA Pittsburgh in 1988. He then went on to serve as president of AIA Pennsylvania not once, but twice. Additionally, he helped to organize the original Prince Charles-helmed Remaking Cities Conference here in Pittsburgh in 1988, and again 25 years later, in 2013. Bates has held a number of...
