We are seeking interested architects and allied professionals to volunteer for a potential multi-stage Design Charrette for the future use of the Western State Penitentiary / SCI Pittsburgh. AIA Pittsburgh has been in conversation with the PA Department of Historic Preservation and the Department of General Services, which have responded positively to a design process that will identify redevelopment options for this unique property on the Ohio River.
AIA Pittsburgh proposes to initiate and facilitate a multi-stage charrette to develop multiple redevelopment options for the property. The charrette process would be held in as public a manner as possible to encourage participation from a broad array of stakeholders, including representatives from the state, the city, the community, the public sector and the commercial development sector. We are seeking people with the interest, skills and time to volunteer over the next few months. All professional efforts by architects and others would be offered on a volunteer basis. Redevelopment options must be ready by mid to late June.
The first meeting of the charrette group will be held March 8th from Noon-1:15 p.m. at the AIA Office, 925 Liberty Ave, Suite 700. You may bring your own lunch. Please RSVP to Ngrandinetti@aiapgh.org. Please also contact us at this email address if you are interested but cannot attend, or if you want more information.
