Tree Houses Charrette and Competition

June 30, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

Please join YAF and the Pennsylvania Environment Council (PEC) for a half-day design charrette at the AIA Offices, with the goal of designing cool tree-houses that will built for real!

The I Heart Trail vision span from deep in western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio, and reaching into the southwestern corner of New York state. A 2017 study identified a mix of existing and potential connections in the IHeartTrails region. Potential connections currently have gaps between existing trail segments.

More than 120 groups participating in the IHeartTrails Coalition are working together to potentially closing these gaps. At critical trail gaps we seek to create a “grove” of 3 to 6 treehouses, providing a unique destination which will serve as overnight shelter to hikers and bikers.

The IHT will connect trails to four different cities: Cleveland, Akron and Ashtabula in Ohio, Morgantown and Parkersburg in West Virginia, and Pittsburgh and Erie in Pennsylvania.

  • Up to 3 winners will receive $250 each
  • Their design will be further developed, until it gets built
  • Limit of 35 participants; no fee to participate
  • Continental Breakfast and Lunch served
  • Participants will work in 2/3-people teams to be chosen randomly at the beginning of the charrette
  • Bring your own laptop & sketching tools
  • Best idea(s) will be awarded by judges

More info will be shared with the people who rsvp. Please let us know ASAP! For questions, please write to
